Football Recap: Corsicana Takes a Loss

Corsicana dropped down to 5-4 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They had to suffer through a 48-10 loss at the hands of the Midlothian Heritage Jaguars. Having soared to a lofty 35 points in the game before, the Tigers couldn't push the score so high this time.

Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed six in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Ja'Quallin Walker, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Even if they lost, Corsicana's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Allen Walker II was especially locked on to Midlothian Heritage's QB and sacked him twice. Walker II is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made nine or more in each of the last four games he's played.

As for Midlothian Heritage, they pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.8 points over those games.

Midlothian Heritage's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dax Montelongo led the charge by throwing for 136 yards and four touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes, and also rushing for 41 yards and one score. Za'Ko Davis was another key back, rushing for 120 yards and one TD.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Corsicana is set to square off against their familiar foe Ennis at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Mark Brown and WENDERIUS JONES. Meanwhile, Midlothian Heritage will take on rival Kaufman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 839 yards in their previous games.
