Scarlett Martinez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Avah Gonzales, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Bonita Vista, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They blew past Eastlake 8-1 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Barons, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Bonita Vista also got a great performance from Natalie Gonzalez as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched.
At the plate, Kianna Balajadia-Brooks was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Leah Letuli, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Bonita Vista hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in nine consecutive matches.
Bonita Vista is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Otay Ranch, they pushed their record up to 12-9-1 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.
