The Edison Vikings are taking a road trip to square off against the Sheldon Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Edison knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 14 contests -- so hopefully Sheldon likes a good challenge.
Edison is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Kennedy 88-44 on Monday. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Vikings had established a 25-point advantage.
Edison's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Joe Boyce, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten boards. Another player making a difference was Julius Fernandez, who posted ten points and eight steals.
Meanwhile, Sheldon had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They took down the Cardinals 71-52. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Huskies' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while the Cardinals are ranked 452nd).
Edison better focus on containing Teyjaun 'Tae' Carter and Baron Sabir as the pair were huge in Sheldon's win. Carter shot 42% from the field to rack up 21 points, while Sabir went 6-for-13 on his way to 18 points and five rebounds. Sabir has been hot for a while, having posted 17 or more points the last 18 times he's played. Ryder Daniels was another key player, putting up eight points.
Sheldon was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Laguna Creek only racked up six.
Edison's record is now 16-9. As for Sheldon, their record now sits at 24-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Edison has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 24.6 boards per game. However, it's not like Sheldon struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 36.5 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Edison was able to grind out a solid win over Sheldon in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, winning 51-43. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
