The Miramar Patriots will take on the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Miramar sitting on five straight wins and St. Thomas Aquinas on ten.
Miramar is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. Everything went their way against South Plantation as Miramar made off with a 66-44 victory.
Siah Blot was his usual excellent self, going 7-for-15 on his way to 20 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Thanks to that strong game, he now owns an excellent 41.1% three-point shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Joshua Skinner, who posted ten points in addition to eight boards and five assists.
They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Miramar was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Plantation only racked up eight assists.
Meanwhile, St. Thomas Aquinas got the win against Dwyer on Wednesday by a conclusive 69-44. The Raiders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matches by 21 points or more this season.
St. Thomas Aquinas' win came from a few key players Miramar will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Dwayne Wimbley Jr., who shot 4-for-6 from deep and almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Drake (DJ) Sandi was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 11 points and nine assists.
Miramar's win bumped their record up to 20-8. As for St. Thomas Aquinas, their victory bumped their record up to 26-2.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest-scoring teams around. Miramar hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 60.6 points per game. However, it's not like St. Thomas Aquinas struggles in that department as they've been averaging 70.4 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can put up more.
Miramar took their win against St. Thomas Aquinas when the teams last played back in December of 2019 by a conclusive 67-46. The rematch might be a little tougher for Miramar since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
