South Pike is 10-0 against Wilkinson County since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The South Pike Eagles will be playing at home against the Wilkinson County Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Saturday, South Pike ended up a good deal behind St. Patrick and lost 69-55. South Pike has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the defeat, South Pike had strong showings from Lavell Thompson, who scored 13 points along with 8 rebounds, and Jovon Leavy, who scored 17 points. Thompson hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of John Harrell, who scored 11 points.
Even though Wilkinson County has not done well against Hazlehurst recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Wilkinson County was the clear victor by a 59-34 margin over Hazlehurst. The victory was just what Wilkinson County needed coming off of a 62-41 loss in their prior match.
South Pike's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Wilkinson County, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 2-7.
South Pike strolled past Wilkinson County in their previous matchup back in November by a score of 79-60. Does South Pike have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wilkinson County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
