The ALA - Ironwood Warriors will head out to take on the Benjamin Franklin Chargers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. ALA - Ironwood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
On Monday, ALA - Ironwood didn't have quite enough to beat Apache Junction and fell 9-8. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
ALA - Ironwood got a big performance out of Ethan Garcia, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Dominic Cervantes also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Benjamin Franklin hadn't done well against Gilbert Christian recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Chargers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Knights a 6-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Talan Speir made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Cruz Hansen was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Owen Fierstein was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Benjamin Franklin is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for ALA - Ironwood, their loss dropped their record down to 5-15.
ALA - Ironwood was able to grind out a solid victory over Benjamin Franklin in their previous meeting back in March, winning 11-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
