Richland and Penn Cambria are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2017, but not for long. The Richland Rams will head out on the road to face off against the Penn Cambria Panthers at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Thursday, Richland lost to Westmont Hilltop at home by a decisive 62-46 margin. While losing is never fun, Richland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 327th, while Westmont Hilltop is ranked 120th).
Meanwhile, Penn Cambria's 24-6 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They took a 74-59 bruising from Forest Hills on Thursday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game on Monday (58), Penn Cambria still had to take the loss.
Gavin Harrold put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 14 points along with three steals. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Easton Semelsberger, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Penn Cambria smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Forest Hills only pulled down five offensive rebounds.
Richland now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Penn Cambria, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.
Richland took a serious blow against Penn Cambria when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 93-52. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Richland was down 51-28.
