Joaquin is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. They will head out on the road to challenge the Martinsville Pirates at 5:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Joaquin has four straight wins, Martinsville has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Joaquin made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Timpson, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Joaquin never let Timpson get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Ke'Maria Wilson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Autumn Webb, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Wilson wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Joaquin lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Martinsville lost 13-3 to Chireno on Monday.
Rebecca Adams was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
Joaquin pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 12 runs. As for Martinsville, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
Martinsville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Joaquin hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .402. It's a different story for Martinsville, though, as they've only averaged .229. Will they be able to contain Joaquin's hitters?
Everything went Joaquin's way against Martinsville when the teams last played back in April of 2021, as Joaquin made off with a 16-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Joaquin since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
