Northeast Kansas recap October 22, 2013
Valley Falls was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in Northeast Kansas. Earlier in the week, the Dragons triumphed over Immaculata 28-6.
Horton made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,373 from 9,739. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 21-6 victory over the Chargers last week.
Dakota Bayles was a key player and the best on defense this week as Horton fell to Hiawatha. The 6-foot-2 senior pulled down 1 interception, forced 1 fumble, recorded 1 fumble and grabbed 1 sack.
Drew Sachen was a passing and rushing force as the Raiders fell to Valley Falls. He completed 9 passes for 105 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 113 yards. Sachen's favorite target this week was Cory Holcomb, who caught 7 passes for 77 yards.
Sachen was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 24 carries, he ran for 113 yards as Immaculata fell to the Red Hawks. Teammate Michael Valencia added to the ground attack by rushing for 71 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Chargers' Derrick Stone and Bayles have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-10 quarterback Stone has thrown for 1,077 yards this season, while Bayles has 23 catches for 494 yards. Pleasant Ridge's Nick Holmes leads the league in rushing yards with 774.
A big matchup in Northeast Kansas this week will be when McLouth takes on Rod Bunde's team. At the moment, the Bulldogs are in second, while the Dragons are in sixth.
