Unicoi County and Elizabethton are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Unicoi County Blue Devils are taking a road trip to challenge the Elizabethton Fighting Cyclones at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Elizabethton will be up against a hot Unicoi County squad: the team just extended their winning streak to six. Unicoi County came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against Daniel Boone.
Meanwhile, everything went Elizabethton's way against Johnson County on Monday as Elizabethton made off with a 17-2 victory. The Fighting Cyclones haven't had any issues with the Longhorns recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
KATIE GRYDER was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. GRYDER was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
In other pitching news, EZZY BARR looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk).
Back at the plate, SADIE WILLIAMS was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was ADRIAN HEADING, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Elizabethton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .581. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.
Unicoi County pushed their record up to 2-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.6 runs over those games. As for Elizabethton, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Unicoi County was able to grind out a solid win over Elizabethton in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 5-2. Will Unicoi County repeat their success, or does Elizabethton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
