The Gautier Gators will be playing in front of their home fans against the Natchez Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gautier will be looking to keep their 11-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
Gautier might've scored the first points on Thursday, but it was Laurel who claimed the real prize. Gautier took a hard 48-30 fall against Laurel.
Despite the loss, Gautier saw an underclassman step up: Solomon Baggett rushed for 211 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.0 yards per carry. Baggett was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 57 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelvin Beavers, who threw for 98 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, Natchez was not quite Brookhaven's equal in the second half on Thursday. Natchez received a tough blow as they fell 29-14 to Brookhaven.
Despite the defeat, Natchez got a solid performance out of Carl Mcdonald jr, who rushed for 179 yards and a touchdown while picking up 11.2 yards per carry.
The losses dropped Gautier to 6-4 and Natchez to 5-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Gautier has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 172.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Natchez struggles in that department as they've been averaging 150.2 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
