The Odem Owls's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 14th straight loss. They fell to Mathis 35-29. Odem was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Mathis apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Several Owls players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Harper Dredla, who scored five points along with six rebounds and four steals. Aliana Montez was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two blocks.
Kailey Garcia was the offensive standout of the matchup as she scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that she scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Amerie Smith, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Odem's defeat was their sixth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-25. As for Mathis, their win ended a eight-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-19.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Odem will square off against Goliad at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Mathis, they will head out on the road to square off against George West at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
