Handley is a perfect 7-0 against Ranburne since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Handley Tigers will venture away from home to take on the Ranburne Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Handley's victory against Central of Clay County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Handley came out on top in a nail-biter against Central of Clay County on Tuesday, sneaking past 8-7. That's two games straight that the Tigers have won by just one run.
Makenzie McCain was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Olivia Cobb also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Handley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, the third road matchup was the charm for Ranburne, as they earned their first road win of the season. They walked away with a 9-4 win over Vincent on Tuesday. That looming 9-4 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Bulldogs yet this season.
Addison Gibbs spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on 13 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on K.K. Rollins, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Autumn Lovvorn was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
The victory made it two in a row for Handley and bumps their season record up to 4-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Ranburne, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-4.
Handley took their victory against Ranburne in their previous meeting back in April of 2022 by a conclusive 10-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Handley since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
