Centerville has been on the road for three straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Lovelady Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Wednesday, Centerville didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Latexo, but they still walked away with a 59-53 victory. Given Centerville's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 612th, while Latexo is ranked 1413th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Centerville had a senior duo take command as Wade Neyland scored 26 points along with nine rebounds and three steals and Trayce Schwab scored 19 points along with five assists and four steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Neyland has scored at least a third of Centerville's points. Another player making a difference was Zach Waters, who scored four points along with seven rebounds.
Lovelady posted their biggest win yet this season on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 55-34 margin over Leon. The win was just what Lovelady needed coming off of a 81-30 defeat in their prior match.
Centerville is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Lovelady, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-5.
Centerville took their win against Lovelady in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 57-37. Will Centerville repeat their success, or does Lovelady have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
