The high school football season in Ohio came to a close over the weekend of Dec. 1-2 with the crowning of seven state champions.
Washington (Massillon) was among the winners, beating Archbishop Hoban for the Division II state title. That victory helped propel the Tigers to the No. 1 ranking in the final MaxPreps Ohio Top 25.
With the 7-2 win over Archbishop Hoban, Washington (16-0) secured the school's 25th state football title and its first football championship in the playoff era.
Dorian Pringle and
Ryan Page played their way into 14 and 13 tackles respectively as the defense pitched a shutout.
Tigers running back
Mylen Lenix scored the only touchdown of the game when he bolted in from six yards out. A blocked punt by
Chase Bond in the second quarter set up the scoring opportunity.
St. Edward (Lakewood) wrestled the Division I state title from Springfield following a 31-21 triumph to take over the No. 2 spot ahead of Hoban who sits No. 3 at season's end. St. Edward running back
Brandon White ran for 235 yards and three touchdowns in the state title game.
