The Ash Fork Spartans suffered their closest defeat since December 16, 2023 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Grand Canyon by a score of 38-35. Ash Fork was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Grand Canyon apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the loss, Ash Fork still got an impressive performance from Jamie Keele, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals. Eva Flores was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Leading Grand Canyon to victory were Xochitl Galvan and Jaemie Jensen. Galvan scored 15 points along with six rebounds and four steals, while Jensen scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jensen has scored all season.
This is the second loss in a row for Ash Fork and nudges their season record down to 7-14. As for Grand Canyon, their victory bumped their record up to 6-9.
Ash Fork will head out on the road to face off against Williams at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Williams focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Tuesday. As for Grand Canyon, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Fredonia at 1:30 p.m. Fredonia's defense has only allowed 26.2 points per game this season, so Grand Canyon's offense will have their work cut out for them.
