The Trinidad Miners can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They breezed by Swallows Charter Academy at home to the tune of 42-12. With Trinidad ahead 26-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Trinidad's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Monserrad Viera Flores, who scored ten points along with five assists and five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Jesse Gegelman, who scored five points along with nine steals.
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Joanna Wietzke, who scored no points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Wietzke pulled down eight or more rebounds.
The win got Trinidad back to even at 3-3. As for Swallows Charter Academy, they bumped their record down to 0-4 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Trinidad will square off against Raton at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Raton comes in still looking for their first win of the season. Swallows Charter Academy will be home for the holidays to greet Custer County at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
