West Rowan's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They skirted past the Northwest Cabarrus Trojans 23-21. For the Falcons, this counts as revenge for the 30-21 win the Trojans walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead West Rowan to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brant Graham, who threw for 237 yards while picking up 11.3 yards per attempt, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. What's more, Graham racked up 16 rushing yards, the most he's had since back in August. West Rowan's leading receiver Brennon Stevenson was Graham's top target yet again, picking up 185 receiving yards.
West Rowan's run defense was locked in: Northwest Cabarrus could only muster 2.6 yards per carry. While three picked up at least ten total tackles, Kayden Weeks stood above the rest. He picked up a sack and made ten total tackles (2.0 for loss). West Rowan's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.3.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for West Rowan, racking up 11 points in total. All came from Carter Durant: he went 3-for-3 kicking field goals for nine points, and 2-for-2 kicking extra points for an additional two.
Northwest Cabarrus' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hudson Irwin, who threw for 290 yards and one TD.
West Rowan now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Northwest Cabarrus, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 7-2.
Coming up, West Rowan will square off against Salisbury at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons will be up against the Hornets' rather soft defense (which has allowed 31.11 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Northwest Cabarrus, they will challenge Jay M. Robinson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight.
