Baseball Recap: Clinton Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Clinton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They walked away with an 8-3 win over the Bloomington Central Catholic Saints. For the Maroons, this counts as revenge for the 8-0 victory the Saints walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2018.

Preston Curtis looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Clinton: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 4-8 otherwise.

At the plate, Josh Bass was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Jack Manning was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Clinton has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Bloomington Central Catholic, their record is now 3-14-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clinton will venture away from home to face off against Shelbyville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Rams will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Bloomington Central Catholic, they will head out on the road to take on Normal University at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
