Valmeyer extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 6-11 in the process. They came up short against the Marissa/Coulterville Meteors, falling 14-6. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Meteors apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
Valmeyer got a good showing from Gavin Rau, who pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs Rau has allowed since back in March.
At the plate, Troy Neff was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Kye Holbrook, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs.
As for Marissa/Coulterville, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 9-3. The result was nothing new for the Meteors, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.
On Marissa/Coulterville's side, Landon Sabo looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Sabo has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Marissa/Coulterville let Ryne Rhodes and Carter Daugherty run wild. Rhodes went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Daugherty got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI Daugherty has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Fred Klingeman, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Coming up, Valmeyer will head out on the road to square off against Valley Park at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Marissa/Coulterville will be paying especially close attention to the Pirates' game: after the Pirates face off against the Hawks, they'll take on Marissa/Coulterville again at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
