This season hasn't been kind to the Carol City Chiefs, who are still winless after their sixth match. They were outmatched by Northwestern at home and fell 57-10. While losing is never fun, Carol City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 620th, while Northwestern is ranked 207th).
Northwestern's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sophonie Felix , who scored 15 points along with three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Felix has scored at least 25% of Northwestern's points. Another player making a difference was Janyiah Mickens, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds.
Carol City's defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-6. As for Northwestern, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 7-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carol City will face off against Homestead at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Homestead's defense has only allowed 27 points per game this season, so Carol City's offense will have their work cut out for Carol City. Northwestern's road trip will continue as they head out to face Coral Gables at 5:00 p.m. on January 12th. Coral Gables is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
