The Chapin Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 48-37 to Dutch Fork. While losing is never fun, Chapin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 84th, while Dutch Fork is ranked 19th).
Chapin's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Reagan Haggard, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks, and Sami Stephenson who scored four points along with seven rebounds and five blocks.
Chapin struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Dutch Fork racked up ten assists.
Michaela Fairwell was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and ten steals for Dutch Fork. Fairwell hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Antoinet Cheeseboro was another key contributor, scoring five points along with seven steals.
Chapin's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-7. As for Dutch Fork, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chapin will take on White Knoll at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Dutch Fork, they will be playing in front of their home fans against River Bluff at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. River Bluff is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
