Checotah is 1-9 against Stigler since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Checotah Wildcats take on Stigler Panthers at 11:30 a.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Checotah is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Morris get on the board and left with a 14-0 win on Friday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Wildcats as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Mason Rainbolt was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Rainbolt was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Checotah let Dalton Carter and Dallas Carter run wild. Dalton scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Dallas scored a run while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Treagan DuVall, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.
Checotah always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .786. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Stigler put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Wilburton by a score of 11-7.
Blake Goff made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Goff was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Goff wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Landon Hodges, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Another was Dakota Drewry, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Stigler's win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Checotah, their victory bumped their record up to 2-6.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Checotah hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like Stigler struggles in that department as they've averaged .414. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Checotah suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Stigler when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Will Checotah have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
