The Evans Trojans suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Thursday. They took a serious blow against Umatilla, falling 59-9. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Evans has scored all season.
Carmen Roundtree was Evans' leading scorer, having posted three points.
Umatilla's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Herva Brutus led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 16 rebounds. Brutus is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayda Washington, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Evans has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season. As for Umatilla, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Evans will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Winter Park at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. Winter Park presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Evans in Florida (Winter Park is ranked 132nd, while Evans is ranked 494th). Umatilla won't have much time to rest: their next game is against University at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th. University is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
