After losing to the Tampa Catholic Crusaders the last time they met, the Academy of the Holy Names Jaguars decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Academy of the Holy Names pulled ahead with a 48-47 photo finish over Tampa Catholic. Given Academy of the Holy Names' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Tampa Catholic is ranked 125th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Academy of the Holy Names got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lucy Morey out in front who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Morey has scored at least 25% of Academy of the Holy Names' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Hunt, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Tampa Catholic lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ashley Knox, who scored 11 points. Emily Martelli was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Academy of the Holy Names and bumps their season record up to 7-1. As for Tampa Catholic, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
Academy of the Holy Names has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Seffner Christian at 6:30 p.m. on December 12th. One thing working in Seffner Christian's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. Tampa Catholic won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Tampa Prep at 1:00 p.m. on December 9th.
