The Tri County Trojans had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They walked away with a 53-41 win over Southern. Given Tri County's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Southern is ranked 129th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tri County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caden Bales, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Bales has scored at least 25% of Tri County's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Siems, who scored 12 points along with five assists.
Tri County pushed their record up to 3-0 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.6 points per game. As for Southern, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tri County won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Lewiston. Southern won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Deshler at 7:00 p.m. on December 9th. Hopefully Deshler focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Thursday.
