Peru is on a six-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Guerin Catholic is on a seven-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Peru Tigers will take on the Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Peru blew past Manchester, posting a 52-6 win on the road. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 39-6.
Matthew Roettger continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 74 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing for 165 yards and two touchdowns on only eight passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Ross, who rushed for 86 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries.
Meanwhile, Guerin Catholic was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Culver Academies 42-7 on the road. 42 seems to be a good number for Guerin Catholic as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Guerin Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jack Linden led the charge by rushing for 166 yards and a touchdown. Malcolm Houze was another key contributor, gaining 92 total yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Peru to 9-0 and Guerin Catholic to 7-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Peru has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 344.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Guerin Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 173.4 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
