The Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy Phoenix won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 97-50 loss at the hands of Weaver. While losing is never fun, Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 144th, while Weaver is ranked 48th).
Weaver's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Fazal Khan led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds. Khan has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last ten times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Madden Cupe, who scored 16 points along with seven assists and three steals.
Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Weaver, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy on the road again on Tuesday and play against Capital Prep at 6:30 p.m. on January 30th. As for Weaver, they will face off against Metropolitan Learning Center at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Metropolitan Learning Center comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
