The Poyen Indians will face off against the Carlisle Bison at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Last Friday, Poyen made easy work of Mount Ida and carried off a 13-3 win. Considering the Indians' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Jadyn Warrick made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Warrick was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Poyen got a massive performance out of Ella Moore, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Lyza Crutchfield, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Carlisle had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Hornets an 11-0 shutout. Considering the Bison have won 12 matches by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Jessa Wiles was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Chloe Smith was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Carlisle kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive games.
Carlisle pushed their record up to 19-10 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Poyen, their victory bumped their record up to 4-10.
Poyen suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Carlisle in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Will the Indians have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
