The St. Andrew's Lions suffered their biggest loss since December 1, 2023 on Friday. Their tough 53-31 loss to Westminster Schools of Augusta might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, St. Andrew's can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 448th, while Westminster Schools of Augusta is ranked 118th).
Several Lions players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Coco Carnahan, who scored six points along with 12 rebounds.
Westminster Schools of Augusta's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but India Williams led the charge by scoring 25 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Williams has scored at least a third of Westminster Schools of Augusta's points. Another player making a difference was Aimee Spurlock, who scored 16 points along with five steals.
St. Andrew's defeat dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Westminster Schools of Augusta, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-2.
St. Andrew's won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against May River at 4:15 p.m. on January 13th. As for Westminster Schools of Augusta, they will head out on the road to challenge Fox Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
