The Green Level Gators are taking a road trip to take on the Willow Spring Storm at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Green Level is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Green Level came up short against Southern Lee and fell 10-6.
Green Level got a good showing from Dylan Hodges, who pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave Hodges a new career-low in walks (zero).
At the plate, Ben Bernard was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Luke Talley was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Willow Spring, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They blew past Felton Grove 10-0 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Storm, who have now won three contests by nine runs or more so far this season.
Willow Spring also got a great performance from Will Fansler as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. Fansler also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Storm are 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-4 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Ryder Randolph was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Nate Rice also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Willow Spring is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Green Level, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Willow Spring's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Green Level hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. It's a different story for Willow Spring, though, as they've only averaged .241. Will they be able to contain Green Level's hitters?
Green Level beat Willow Spring 5-2 when the teams last played on Tuesday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Gators since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
