Winnisquam won the last time they faced Farmington/Nute, and things went their way on Saturday, too. Winnisquam were the clear victor by a 39-7 margin over Farmington/Nute. Winnisquam were expected to win, but the margin was definitely larger than the state rankings had forecast.
Winnisquam's offense came in ready to rumble, picking up 26 points in the first half. Farmington/Nute came up with 7 to make it 26-7 heading into the break. The Winnisquam defense stood its ground in the third quarter, giving up 0 and all but finishing the contest.
Winnisquam's success was spearheaded by the efforts of sophomore Philip Nichols, who rushed for 74 yards and 2 touchdowns, and senior Angelo Glover, who rushed for 116 yards and 1 touchdown. Senior Gunnar Horman was in the mix, too, providing Winnisquam with 2 touchdowns. This was the first game for both teams, giving Winnisquam a 1-0 record and starting Farmington/Nute off at 0-1.
Next week Winnisquam take on Fall Mountain at 7:00 PM. Farmington/Nute will look to defend their home turf against Franklin at 2:00 PM.
