Sheldon is a perfect 10-0 against Monterey Trail since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. Sheldon will host Monterey Trail at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Sheldon 3.1, Monterey Trail 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Saturday, Sheldon beat Casa Grande 6-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Huskies.
Sheldon's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Madison Chapman, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Natalia Aguilar also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, while Monterey Trail put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for West Campus. Monterey Trail blew past West Campus 10-0. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Sophia Coronado and Maya Ewing were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Coronado tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Ewing tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Coronado went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Ewing scored a run while going 2-for-3. That's the most RBI Coronado has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Aliyah Ewing was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Liliana Ruelas, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
Monterey Trail kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Campus only managed two hits.
The win got Monterey Trail back to even at 4-4. As for Sheldon, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.
Monterey Trail's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sheldon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .359. It's a different story for Monterey Trail, though, as they've only averaged .248. Will they be able to contain Sheldon's hitters?
Sheldon skirted past Monterey Trail 3-2 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Does Sheldon have another victory up their sleeve, or will Monterey Trail turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
