Basketball Recap: Northampton County Makes It Eight in a Row on the Road

Northampton County had won seven straight road games dating back to last season and Kaiyah Cherry did her part to make it eight on Friday. The Northampton County Jaguars managed a 56-51 victory over the Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars thanks in part to Cherry, who went 10 of 24 on her way to 26 points and three blocks. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Northampton County's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Toccara Joyner, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 13 points and three steals. That's the most steals she has posted since back in December of 2023.

Despite the defeat, Rocky Mount Prep saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jada Silver posted 15 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Silver is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Amora Franklin, who had eight points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Northampton County's win bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Rocky Mount Prep, they now have a losing record at 2-3.

Northampton County will head out to challenge Roanoke Rapids at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Rocky Mount Prep, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 55-19 loss against Wilson Prep on the 16th.
