Laurel has gone 9-1 against Shenango recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Spartans will venture away from home to challenge the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Shenango will be up against a hot Laurel squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Spartans put the hurt on New Brighton with a sharp 20-3 win on Wednesday. The Spartans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Ivy Pancher and Hailey Fell did most of the damage at the plate: Pancher went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI, while Fell went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and four RBI. That home run was Pancher's first of the season. Mayci Lang was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3.
They weren't the only one making solid contact: Laurel kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Shenango won against Freedom Area on Monday with 18 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Wildcats' pitchers stepped up to hand Aliquippa an 18-0 shutout. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.
Sydney Byerly made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (three). She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Zoe Offie was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Teagan Shippert, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.
Laurel's record now sits at 6-3. As for Shenango, their record is now 7-5.
Everything went Laurel's way against Shenango in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Laurel made off with a 12-1 victory. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
