Cumberland hasn't had much luck against Northwestern recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Beavers will challenge the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Cumberland took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They walked away with a 7-2 win over Ladysmith.

Morgan Monchilovich made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Cumberland let Macy Beecroft and Presli Butzler run wild. Beecroft went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Butzler went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Northwestern came tearing into Monday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Hurricanes by a score of 5-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Ellie Peterson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ashlyn Sutherland, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Mallory Siddiqui also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Cumberland pushed their record up to 11-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Northwestern, their record now sits at 12-2.
Cumberland suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Northwestern in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Beavers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
