South Pointe has gone 10-0 against York recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. Having just played yesterday, the South Pointe Stallions will head out on the road to face off against the York Cougars at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (South Pointe has three straight victories, York has 12 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
On Wednesday, South Pointe beat Camden 69-61. Given the Stallions' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 135th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Treven Raymon, who went 10 for 16 on his way to 32 points and seven rebounds. Those 32 points gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Wilson, who posted ten points.
South Pointe smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, York lost to A.C. Flora at home by a 66-49 margin on Monday. The Cougars were down 53-31 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
South Pointe will have to contain Christian Smith as he made an impact in York's last game. He went 5 of 9 on his way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zan Walling, who put up four points and six rebounds.
York's defeat dropped their record down to 1-14. As for South Pointe, they pushed their record up to 10-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: South Pointe has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 35.3 boards per game. However, it's not like York struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for South Pointe against York in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as the team secured an 84-48 victory. Does South Pointe have another victory up their sleeve, or will York turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
