The Rio Hondo Bobcats are taking a road trip to square off against the Hanna Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
Rio Hondo came into this matchup off a tough six-run defeat on Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Los Fresnos by a score of 7-5 on Friday. The Bobcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mia Galvan made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one triple, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Danielle Rocha also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Even though they lost, Rio Hondo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Los Fresnos only posted a batting average of .280.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hanna). They put the hurt on Hidalgo with a sharp 24-3 victory on Friday. With that win, the Golden Eagles brought their scoring average up to 7.1 runs per game.
Samantha Aldape was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs.
In other batting news, Kaitlyn Flores was a standout: she scored four runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Sol Guzman was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Hanna moved to 4-8-1 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak. As for Rio Hondo, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rio Hondo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .373. However, it's not like Hanna struggles in that department as they've averaged .365. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
