Franklin has gone 8-2 against Pisgah recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Bears at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Franklin sitting on seven straight wins and Pisgah on five.
Franklin's hitters will try to repeat the strong performance they gave on Friday, when they got past West Henderson's usually-dominant pitching crew. The Panthers put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 10-4 victory. Considering the Panthers have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Suzanna Cabe was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Ashlyn McConnell was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Makayla Pendergrass, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Franklin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Pisgah's hitters rose to the challenge against a Warhorses pitching crew that boasted an average of only 2.9 runs allowed on Wednesday. The Bears were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over Owen. Considering the Bears have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Sadie Messer tossed a big game, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February.
On the hitting side, Pisgah got a massive performance out of Lilly Inman, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Inman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mack Jones, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs.
Franklin's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Pisgah, their record is now 8-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Franklin has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Pisgah struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Franklin's way against Pisgah when the teams last played back in March, as Franklin made off with a 7-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
