PikeView extended their losing streak to eight on Monday, dropping their season record down to 10-8 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-9 heartbreaker at the hands of the Independence Patriots. That's two games in a row now that the Panthers have lost by exactly two runs.

Eli Naylor was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. PikeView is 4-1 when Naylor posts two or more runs, but 6-7 otherwise.
In other batting news, Landon Bolen was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Landon Wyatt was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
As for Independence, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-9-1. They haven't had any issues with PikeView recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
On Independence's side, Chance Moore tossed a big game, striking out 12 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up six earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Moore has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Hunter Milam and Andrew Coalson did most of the damage at the plate: Milam got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI, while Coalson got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave Coalson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Degan Williams, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Coming up, PikeView is taking a road trip to face off against Sissonville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Independence, they will take on Greenbrier East at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
