The Classical Academy Titans will head out on the road to challenge the Lamar Thunder at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Classical Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Lamar's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
The Classical Academy's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Monday's struggle, when Discovery Canyon hitters got past them. The Titans lost 12-4 to the Thunder on Monday. The Titans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The Classical Academy got a good showing from Chase Rorabaugh, who didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Zack Hale made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Lamar was able to grind out a solid win over Bennett on Thursday, taking the game 7-4. The Thunder haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Alex Williams made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Cael Buxton and Braxen Shelton did most of the damage at the plate: Buxton went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Shelton went 1-for-2 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave Shelton a new career-high. Diego Estrada was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.
Lamar's record is now 13-6. As for The Classical Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 14-4.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. The Classical Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .525. However, it's not like Lamar struggles in that department as they've averaged .490. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
The Classical Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Lamar in their previous meeting back in March of 2022, winning 7-4. Do the Titans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Thunder turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
