After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Orofino, Grangeville was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the Priest River Spartans 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won ten games by ten runs or more so far this season.
David Goicoa was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, JT Jackson and Thayn Williams did most of the damage at the plate: Jackson went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Williams went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Jackson is becoming a predictor of Grangeville's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Tayden Wassmuth, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Grangeville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Priest River only posted an OBP of .250.
Grangeville is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Priest River, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season.
