Walton-Verona has gone 8-2 against Owen County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Bearcats will host the Rebels at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Walton-Verona's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. Everything went their way against Bracken County as they made off with a 15-0 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Bearcats needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Aidan Kerns made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Tristan Wills and Tanner Watkins did most of the damage at the plate: Wills got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Watkins got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave Wills a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Will Hurles, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and one run.
Walton-Verona always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bracken County only posted an OBP of .250.
Meanwhile, Owen County came tearing into Saturday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Wildcats 7-0.
Owen County pushed their record up to 12-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Walton-Verona, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-12 record this season.
Walton-Verona was able to grind out a solid win over Owen County when the teams last played back in April, winning 6-1. Will the Bearcats repeat their success, or do the Rebels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
