Southeast Halifax has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Southeast Halifax's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
Even though Warren County scored an imposing 55 points last Friday, Southeast Halifax still came out on top. Southeast Halifax took their match against Warren County 66-55. Given Southeast Halifax's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while Warren County is ranked 400th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Southeast Halifax had a senior duo take command as Trayvese Silver scored 13 points along with six steals and Kaizavion Lawrence scored 11 points along with four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for him. Rodney Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Meanwhile, SouthWest Edgecombe scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They walked away with a 72-59 win over Martin County. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
SouthWest Edgecombe's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Justin Bridgers, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. The matchup was Bridgers' eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ricky Smith, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds.
Southeast Halifax's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-0. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Southeast Halifax hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 66.8 points per game. It's a different story for SouthWest Edgecombe, though, as they've been averaging only 59.5 points per game. The only thing between Southeast Halifax and another offensive beatdown is SouthWest Edgecombe. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Southeast Halifax was taken down by SouthWest Edgecombe 69-37 in their previous matchup back in December of 2019. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Southeast Halifax was down 37-17.
