Basketball Game Preview: The Carmel School Wildcats vs. Cristo Rey Royals

The Carmel School Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Cristo Rey Royals at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Carmel School is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.7 points per game this season.

The Carmel School will bounce into Saturday's game after beating Grace Christian School, who they had gone 0-7 against in their seven prior meetings. The Carmel School claimed a resounding 54-20 win over Grace Christian School. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 33 points or more this season.

Kedelin Santos was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 13 boards. Her evening made it 12 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. April Twum-Barimah was another key player, putting up eight points.

The Carmel School smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Cristo Rey is still winless after their game against Appomattox Regional Governor's Arts & Tech back in January, but the team can take solace in the fact it was the closest they've come to winning. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 29-26 heartbreaker at the hands of the Dragons. One positive for the Royals, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

The Carmel School's record now sits at 7-5. As for Cristo Rey, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-9.

Everything came up roses for The Carmel School against Cristo Rey in their previous matchup back in January, as the squad secured a 55-17 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for The Carmel School since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
