The St. Edward Beavers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by St. Francis on the road and fell 66-22. St. Edward has struggled against St. Francis recently, as their game on Tuesday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, St. Edward still got an impressive performance from Anthony Reader, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and five steals. That was a full 59.1% of St. Edward's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Marcos Paez, who scored three points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, St. Edward struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
St. Edward dropped their record down to 3-10 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for St. Francis, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Edward on the road again on Friday and play against Heartland Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. As for St. Francis, they will challenge Norfolk Catholic at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Norfolk Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
