Combs hasn't had much luck against Poston Butte recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Coyotes will host the Broncos at 3:45 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Dysart hit Combs with a seven-run sixth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Coyotes fell just short of the Demons by a score of 12-11.
Merrick Bowles and Blake Grant-Jenks did some serious damage despite the final result: Bowles went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Grant-Jenks got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That double marked the first that Grant-Jenks has hit this season. Angus Brumbaugh was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Poston Butte). They put the hurt on Mohave with a sharp 19-2 win on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Poston Butte got a massive performance out of Brian Palma, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Danlad Kasim, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Poston Butte always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .659. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2025.
Poston Butte's win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-5. As for Combs, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6-2.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Combs hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .361. However, it's not like Poston Butte struggles in that department as they've averaged .426. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Combs suffered a grim 12-3 defeat to Poston Butte in their previous matchup back in March of 2025. Can the Coyotes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
