Wellington is 9-0-1 against Seminole Ridge since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Wellington Wolverines will face off against the Seminole Ridge Hawks at 6:30 p.m. Wellington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, everything went Wellington's way against Palm Beach Central as Wellington made off with a 13-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wolverines.
Tori Payne was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.
In other batting news, Wellington let Angelina Baronci and Brianna Casey run wild. Baronci scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Casey scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Erryn Lowe also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Wellington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .395. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palm Beach Central only posted a batting average of .217.
Meanwhile, Seminole Ridge was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Westminster Academy. That's two games in a row now that the Hawks have lost by just one run.
Chloe Coffie made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Watczak, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Wellington's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Seminole Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
Seminole Ridge's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Wellington has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Seminole Ridge, though, as they've been averaging 10.3 hits. Given Wellington's sizable advantage in that area, Seminole Ridge will need to find a way to close that gap.
Wellington beat Seminole Ridge 5-1 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Does Wellington have another victory up their sleeve, or will Seminole Ridge turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
