Baseball Recap: East Chicago Central's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

East Chicago Central's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They put the hurt on the Bowman Academy Eagles with a sharp 16-4 win. Considering the Cardinals have won six games by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Christian Rios and Victor Rivera made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Rios didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Rivera tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Rios also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because East Chicago Central is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-9 otherwise. At bat, Rios went 2-for-3 with five RBI, while Rivera got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Rivera has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Jackyln Becerra was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three RBI and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Deivion Cox, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

East Chicago Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

With the victory, East Chicago Central broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-10. As for Bowman Academy, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-8.

Coming up, East Chicago Central will be playing at home against 21st Century Charter at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.8 runs per game on average), something the Cardinals will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Bowman Academy, they will challenge South Bend Career Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles are facing the Trailblazers at the right time seeing as the Trailblazers are stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
