This season hasn't been kind to the First Academy Lions, who are still winless after their fifth contest. They took a 46-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of St. Teresa's Catholic on Monday. First Academy has struggled against St. Teresa's Catholic recently, as their contest on Monday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, First Academy saw an underclassman step up: Logan James dropped a double-double on ten points and 23 rebounds. James also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Rylan Peacock was another key contributor, scoring six points along with nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, First Academy were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
St. Teresa's Catholic got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ricardo Resendez out in front who scored 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Marini, who scored 11 points.
First Academy's loss was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-5. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.3 points per game. As for St. Teresa's Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 1-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. First Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Colquitt Christian Academy on January 5, 2024.
